FDU Edged Again, Takes 23-22 Loss From William Paterson

MADISON, NJ - The FDU Devils came back from an early 7-0 deficit to take a 16-14 halftime lead, but a missed two-point conversion in the third quarter coupled with a missed fourth quarter field goal with 55 seconds left kept the Devils from getting their first win of the season. The William Paterson Pioneers improve to 2-3, winning their second straight game, while FDU drops to 0-6. Tonight's game marked the third time this season that FDU lost by one point. The Devils also incurred a 21-18 loss to Albright earlier in the year. FDU had a 22-20 lead with 46 second left in the third after Brad Bishop (Perth Amboy, NJ) ran in a touchdown from three yards out. William Paterson recaptured the lead after Mickey Hulse hit a 19-yard field goal to put the Pioneers up 23-22 to cap an eight minute, 59 second drive. The Devils managed to get down to the Pioneer 15, setting up Eric Eickhorst (South Bound Brook, NJ) for a 35-yard field goal attempt which was no good. William Paterson took a 7-0 with 12:15 left in the first quarter, as Brian Roman scored on a 10-yard run. Mickey Hulse hit the extra point to take the win. Mike Quigley (Manalapan, NJ) hit Keith O'Hara (Hackettstown, NJ) for the two-point conversion. The Pioneers came back with a touchdown as Roman ran for a 47-yard touchdown on the first play of the second quarter. Hulse made the kick to put WPU up 14-8. Mike Kuziemski (South Amboy, NJ) ran it in for two points to give FDU their 16-14 lead with 9:46 left in the first half. In the last play of the first half, Bishop, under heavy pressure, hit Kuziemski for what appeared to a 15-yard touchdown that would have put FDU up with a 22-14 halftime lead, but Bishop was ruled down before passing.
