FDU Defeats Delaware Valley, 27-26, to end streak

Madison, NJ - Junior cornerback Dave Dondero scored on a 22 yard interception return to give the Devils a 27-20 lead and junior LB Tom Pouliot blocked his second extra point of the game following a late Delaware Valley TD to preserve a 27-26 victory in Madison. The Devils improve to 1-4, while the Aggies fall to 3-2.

Dondero picked off a pass from QB Joey Shenko and scored with 2:23 left in the game with junior Rich Dwyer following with the extra point. Delaware Valley came right back and scored on an 11 play 80 yard drive when Shenko hit Harry Dean for an 18 yard TD to pull the Aggies within one with 30 seconds left to play. Pouliot blocked Jon Hoxworthy's kick to keep FDU ahead.

The Devils led 14-7 at the half but DVC tied the game at 14-14 after Shenko found Matt Altieri for a 10 yard score with 7:51 left in the third quarter. Hoxworhty's extra point capped the eight play, 49 yard drive for the Aggies. DVC took the lead on their next drive when Shenko hooked up with Altieri again for an 18 yard TD with 3:42 to play in the third quarter. Pouliot blocked this extra point try as well, and DVC held 20-14 advantage.

FDU struck back and scored on three plays, including a 35 yard toss from sophomore QB Mark Pollifrone to classmate Mike Kuziemski to tie the contest at 20 with 2:33 left in the third. Rich Dwyer's kick attempt failed , leaving the score at 20-20.

Polliforne finished the game 10 of 21 for 245 yards and 2 touchdowns. Junior Fred Peters caught four passes for 143 yards and a score, while Kuziemski pulled in a pair of passes for a TD and 41 yards. Senior Bill Bachman led the Devils' rushing attack with 100 yards on 27 carries, while hitting paydirt once. Pouliot led the FDU defense with 17 tackles in addition to the blocked points. Dondero finished with seven tackles and the 22 yard interception return for a score, while junior linebacker Mike Ortiz came up with nine tackles and a sack for 12 yards.
