FDU FOOTBALL BLANKED BY MORAVIAN, 35-0

BETHLEHEM, PA -- The Fairleigh Dickinson University football team's offense couldn't get anything going as the Moravian defense allowed just 83 yards en-route to a 35-0 victory for the greyhounds. The Devils fall to 2-6 on the year, Moravian improves to 3-5 overall.

The Greyhounds defense took advantage of FDU, after senior starting quarterback Mike Morgan (Hackettstown, NJ) who was starting in place of injured regular starting QB Mark Pollifrone (Manalapan, NJ) was knocked out of the game after just the third play of the game with a leg injury. Pollifrone was forced into the starting role after not practicing the entire week for the Devils because of a badly sprained ankle.

Moravian took a 6-0 lead when Jim Scott ran for a five-yard score with 5:01 left in the first period to cap a 17-play, 63 yard drive. The Greyhounds' run for a two point conversion failed. Moravian increased its lead to 14-0 after Gordy Frack picked off a Pollifrone pass and returned it 43 yards for a touchdown with 6:55 to go in the second quarter and quarterback Rob Petrosky found Kevin McHale in the endzone for a two-point conversion. The Greyhounds scored again on the first play of their next drive when wide receiver Vance Szabo pulled in a 33-yard pass for a score from Petrosky. Kevin Smith's kick was blocked by junior defensive end Brad Roman (Wayne, NJ) and Moravian led 20-0 with 5:30 to play in the first half.

The Greyhounds wasted no time in the third quarter, scoring on their first drive of the new half, going 75 yards on three plays, with Szabo ending the drive with a 70-yard TD reception thrown by Petrosky with 13:22 to go in the third quarter. Kevin Rosander took the snap on a fake extra point try and ran the ball in for a two-point conversion for a 28-0 Moravian lead. The Greyhounds added to their margin when Petrosky hooked up with Szabo again for a 51-yard scoring toss with 10:15 to play in the third period. Smith's kick was good and Moravian led 35-0. It proved to be the last score for the Greyhounds and FDU managed to get no closer than the Moravian 30-yard line for the entire game.

The Greyhounds controlled the ball for most of the game with a 39:51 time of possession mark compared to the Devil's 20:09

Petrosky completed 10 of 13 pass attempts for 212 yards and three scores for Moravian, while Szabo caught three passes for 154 yards and 3 touchdowns. Kirk Harryn hauled in four passes for 19 yards, while rushing for 23 yards on 11 carries. P.J. Jankowicz led the Greyhounds with a game-high 46 yards on 21 carries, while also catching a pass for 17 yards.

Pollifrone finished the afternoon 4-16 for 36 yards, while being intercepted twice. Freshman wide receiver Quadir Muhammed (Roselle, NJ) caught a pass for 14 yards, and senior tailback Oscar Bathan (Flemington, NJ) led the Devils ground attack with 42 yards on 11 carries. Junior linebacker Tom Pouliot (Hillsborough, NJ) led the FDU defense with eight tackles to extend his school record to 118 tackles on the season. He also forced a fumble. Junior linebacker Erik Stanislawczyk (Monroe, NJ) had seven tackles, including a sack for three yards.
